  • NICOLE PIERCE is a dancer, choreographer, pianist and teacher. She founded EgoArt, Inc. in 1999 to pursue a consummate and provocative way to combine dance with other mediums. She has created over 30 dance works for her company and maintains an active freelance career as a dancer in the Boston area.

She works also as an installation artist and creates environments for dance and other live events that incorporate sculpture, video and sound design. Pierce is also known for her comedic spoken monologues that skirt the line between story-telling and standup comedy.

Pierce is an active teacher of both music and dance. She has conducted master classes in dance technique at Harvard University, Tufts University, Salem State College and College of the Holy Cross to name a few. She teaches classical piano to children and adults, and maintains a private practice in the Boston area. Pierce serves on the dance faculties of Emerson College, Salem State University and Green Street Studios. She holds an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art in the SIM program (Studio for Interrelated Media).

“...a beautifully trained dancer and a masterful choreographer, Pierce is an accomplished classical pianist, a champion bartender and a bit of a standup comedian.” --Sara Sweet, Weekly Dig

  • Video is key to my process in terms of documenting work and in creating movement works that are designed specifically for viewing in the video medium.

  • “While there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see.” -Dothea Lange

Photography of dance turns an artwork of four dimensions into a 2D shadow - even so, it can also reveal hidden aspects to the movements I create, and highlight truths that I try to express.

  • Piano Lessons!

    Your home or mine!

Recently transplanted to NYC, Nicole is taking new students. Children, Adults, beginning to advanced

Nicole has over 20 years of experience teaching piano to adults and children. She is equally comfortable working with beginning students to the most advanced and prides herself on her ability to cater to individual needs and learning styles. Her teaching emphasizes listening and musicality in order to cultivate expressive playing and enjoyment. Based in classical music, Nicole incorporates other musical styles to enhance training and increase versatility. Music Theory and Composition are taught through the playing and creation of music rather than through dull and repetitive exercises, however music theory may become a major part of study if the student wishes.
