  • NICOLE PIERCE is a dancer, choreographer, pianist and teacher. She founded EgoArt, Inc. in 1999 to pursue a consummate and provocative way to combine dance with other mediums. She has created over 30 dance works for her company and maintains an active freelance career as a dancer in the Boston area.

She works also as an installation artist and creates environments for dance and other live events that incorporate sculpture, video and sound design. Pierce is also known for her comedic spoken monologues that skirt the line between story-telling and standup comedy.

Pierce is an active teacher of both music and dance. She has conducted master classes in dance technique at Harvard University, Tufts University, Salem State College and College of the Holy Cross to name a few. She teaches classical piano to children and adults, and maintains a private practice in the Boston area. Pierce serves on the dance faculties of Emerson College, Salem State University and Green Street Studios. She holds an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art in the SIM program (Studio for Interrelated Media).

“...a beautifully trained dancer and a masterful choreographer, Pierce is an accomplished classical pianist, a champion bartender and a bit of a standup comedian.” --Sara Sweet, Weekly Dig

  • Video is key to my process in terms of documenting work and in creating movement works that are designed specifically for viewing in the video medium.

My video work falls into three types

  • “While there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see.” -Dothea Lange

Photography of dance turns an artwork of four dimensions into a 2D shadow - even so, it can also reveal hidden aspects to the movements I create, and highlight truths that I try to express.

  • Teaching Is In Our DNA

FREE CLASS! at Green Street Studios: Thursday, January 8th, 2015. Advanced Modern & Movement Lab 6:00-7:30pm with LIVE MUSIC! A class for experienced dancers that explores technical challenges through a mix of classical and distinctive movement vocabularies. The warm up focuses on healthy alignment tailored to individual needs, as well as techniques for increasing strength, stability, flexibility, long lines and mental acuity. The bulk of the class (the “lab”) moves through a long phrase of muscular, inventive, textural movement, as well as keen musicality and rhythm. Nicole encourages the exploration of small detail and nuance just as much as the larger picture to shape the individual voice. The end result: you walk out of class not only a better dancer but a better performer as well.

    Also running at Dance Complex: Tuesdays, 6:30-8:00pm - no class 12/23 & 12/30; Resumes January 6, 2015

We also offer private classes - Please send me an email to inquire about availability and prices
